Reducing Carbon Emissions: A Guide For Architects

Home Introduction Further considerations

Further considerations

At a minimum, the audit should include Scope 1 & Scope 2 emissions, which are those which you are directly responsible for eg electricity, fuel burnt on site etc.  It is preferable that you include air travel and at least one Scope 3 emissions factor such as waste or paper consumption.

Involve people

Be honest and transparent when you communicate your climate action.  What you have done is not insignificant, so talk about how many tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions you produce; the tonnes you have avoided and how; what your emissions reduction target is and how you plan to achieve it and by when.

It is very important that all employees be engaged in the process because without their input, analysis and monitoring of progress cannot be accurately assessed. We need to set realistic goals, keep the staff informed of our progress and celebrate achievements.Crawford Associates

This is also a great opportunity to talk about internal waste recycling, staff programs and other green initiatives you are undertaking.
